Advanced Ski Camp - Coronet Peak August 2021

Performance Ski Camps are 5 fun-filled days smashing it out all over the mountain with a Technical, Tactical, and a “How do I ski better?” focus.

2020 meant that with international borders closed, SITCo could not run their normal 10, 8 or 5 week Ski Snowboard Instructor courses and Internships. But SITCo’s passion remained the same, to ski and coach people, develop their understanding and bring out their best performances on snow.

SITCo founder Colin Tanner said, “with no long training courses running we were getting asked by lots of local people, and other keen skiers if there was any possibility that we could run shorter courses for them, with the same high-performance technical focus, but not necessarily for people to sit their Instructor Qualifications.”

So in 2020, 5-day Performance Ski Camps were created. “We trialled the format with a group in August 2020 and it was a huge success, even when halfway through the Camp covid alert levels changed. We had a group of keen skiers and nothing not stop us from having a fantastic week.”

Here is what the crew of 2020 said –

I attended the SITCO ski performance camp at Coronet Peak in the second week of August 2020.  The camp focused on the technical aspects of skiing and broke down each of the core elements back to basics as we learnt how to ski technically better, with a different focus topic for each session. Gavin and Colin are very knowledgeable and have the ability to communicate complex methods and concepts in simple to understand ways. By having the same trainers and a small group for the whole week the course was able to be tailored to each of us focusing on slightly different aspects of skiing, areas of improvement and goals ranging from sitting the NZSIA level 1 exam or to improve our technical performance. We were minded that “once I teach you these tricks, you will never make a turn again the same.” Colin.
Despite the technical focus we were reminded of the main reason we ski is to have fun, and the course certainly helped in adding technical ability to add more fun to the day. I would recommend this course to any advanced level skier who is looking to either improve their skiing or is looking at a training course in preparation for a NZSIA exam.

Jono – 2020

I had reached a point in my skiing where I realized that there was a lot I was getting wrong.
Fortunately, the opportunity to do a five day camp with Sitco arose at my local mountain, Coronet Peak, which I jumped at!
The course involved seven others and myself, and we started from scratch, learning and relearning basic skills.
These skills were continually reinforced and built upon in a well structured way over the five days.
This approach was hugely beneficial not only teaching me how but also teaching the why behind these skills.
I found our coaches to be hugely perceptive in the analysis of problems I was having with my skiing,
but also being able to provide very tailored solutions which gave me a massive confidence to improve.
I enjoyed the course immensely with coaches being really approachable and, of course, the improvements in my skiing were ultimately the best part.
Can’t wait to do another clinic with these guys!

Karl – 2020

I joined the Performance Ski course at SITCo with Colin and Gavin. I used it to prepare for my Level 1 Ski Instructor qualification.
It was an absolutely incredible course, both are so professional and good at what they do, they know exactly how to get you in the process of learning, from the very very start to the unfinished end and will make you understand and give sense to everything about skiing.
I’m super glad I took this course and so excited to start the Level 2 this coming season.

Carolina

I participated in the SITCo course last winter. It was an amazing time with a great group of people and some incredible instructors. My skiing improved drastically and I really learnt what it was like to carve properly along with many other beneficial tips and tricks.
10/10 would recommend to anyone wanting to improve their skiing.
